Melissa's Bio

Melissa Richards is dedicated to using her extensive knowledge of alternative dispute resolution and litigation to serve Manhattan Kansas and the surrounding area. Melissa understands that most cases involving domestic relations end in settlement, so her goal is to help families in transition reach consensus on a conflict as quickly and painlessly as possible. While in law school, she completed an externship with the Riley County Attorney’s Office. Melissa began practicing law in 2012. She then joined the partners at Weary Davis in 2015 and has recently decided to use her skills as a state approved domestic mediator, conciliator, and parenting coordinator to strike out on her own as MHK Dispute Resolution Services. She has years of experience handling both civil & appellate matters. Melissa was raised in Coffeyville, Kansas, and lives in Manhattan with her husband, Jason, and three daughters.

Domestic Mediation

Aside from being a successful litigator, Melissa Richards also specializes in dispute resolution and domestic mediation. Much of her extensive career has been focused on being a neutral dispute resolution provider to help conflicting parties settle out of court. She is considered an approved domestic mediator by the Kansas State Judicial Board. Melissa is frequently has been entrusted with the resolution of court mandated cases for the 2nd, 8th, and 21st Judicial Districts, including the following counties:

Melissa has special interest in domestic relations, appellate practice, divorces involving members of the military, child custody, child support, paternity, protection from abuse & stalking, division of farm assets in divorce, stepparent adoption, and post-divorce litigation.
